Vic Ski Chase update - Rocky Valley Rush

20/8/2013

After the unfortunate cancellation of three of the Vic Ski Chase events due to insufficient snow, the competition is up and running again after the successful running of the Rocky Valley Rush.  Many thanks to the team at Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club who once again put on a great event in what was promising to be very challenging conditions.  Somehow they managed to put together a race with a tail-wind for 90% of the course.

In the women's competition a couple of recent registrations saw the Oldis sisters rocket into second and fourth place, with Kerryn Rim and Belinda Phillips holding on to first and third places respectively after solid performances in the Rocky valley Rush.  With one event to go (Hoppet/Birkebeiner/Joey) there appear to be only two people capable of challenging Kerryn's strong lead, the very promising XC skiing new-comers, Brianna and Aliena Oldis.

In the men's competition Kevin Tory has an unbeatable lead, demonstrating the old maxim "you've got to be in it to win it".  Ben Derrick and Ian Franzke are currently in second and third place respectively, but they could face serious challenges from Bruce Ellis, Paul Waller and Merve Trease this Saturday. (Remember only your best two Falls Creek events are included in the points tally.)
